Summary
My Old Home is about the authors' persona, Lu Hsun, as the narrator. He's recalling his childhood in his brilliant home, he can't describe how much he loved it and how proud he was to grow up in the home. Twenty years later he revisits in 1911 during the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty, he doesn't believe his eyes at first. His house is in ruins, twenty years of weather, renovations and other families. He heard that his old childhood friend Jun-Tu will be reuniting with Lu at the home. When Jun-Tu arrives the first thing he says is "Hello Master." This so when Lu realizes that Jun-Tu wasn't really his friend but more of a servant, their friendship was mutual but not the way Lu thought. Lu hopes his children don't come to realize the class differences in China and hopefully they wont' drift apart or let that effect their friendship.
Music
1. Car Radio: twenty one pilots ( https://youtu.be/92XVwY54h5k )
Car Radio is about running out of distractions to keep him from dealing with life and his emotions, and how the silence is teaching him how to be alive. How this correlates within My Old Home is Lu Hsun’s persona is thinking back to times in childhood and how he was naive and he was unable to see reality and how Jun-Tu was a servant rather than a friend. Now that Lu’s persona is older, twenty years later, he reunites with Jun-Tu and realizes what was real and what was misunderstanding
2. Old Scars/ Future Hearts: All Time Low ( https://youtu.be/xnoJ_0lk_5w )
Old Scars/Future Hearts is about how you need to wake and stop being reserved and live your life and not let anyone else tell you how to live it. “We’ve got scars on our future hearts but we never look back.” that specific lyric is how when someone tells you to live your life is a lesson in which teaches you not to do anymore so the lesson is a scar and it’ll be on your heart forever and how you won’t pay attention to the scar on your heart. How this relates to the story is how Lu was taught to see everything as equal and harmless as a child, and now on his future heart is that scar and how he’s ignoring it and seeing reality for what it is
3. Ain't It Fun?: Tyler Carter ft. Luke Holland ( https://youtu.be/XorEel9J6Ws )
Ain’t It Fun? is about growing up and learning to live on your own and be your own person. This coincides with the short story because Lu grows up as a normal child, imaginations and misconceptions. Twenty years later when he visits his old home he sees it for what it really was and how he lived which was upper class but when he grew up he was no longer in that position. He realized life for what it really was and that Jun-Tu was not only a mutual childhood friend with good stories but also his servant or the servant’s child.
4. NJ Legion Iced Tea: A Day To Remember ( https://youtu.be/tJJ2HE70yzs )
In NJ Legion Iced Tea they’re talking about how they made it and that negative things won’t affect or stop them, how they have not only they’re friends and family to back them up but their visible success. This is relevant to My Old Home because in Lu’s childhood he’s made it to adulthood successfully and hasn't had anything affect him. Although negative things such as his broken down home, the Chinese overthrow of the former dynasty, and how Jun-Tu was relevant to him and his childhood, it didn't stop Lu from living his life and reacquainting himself with his home and his old friend.
5.Kingdom Come: The Civil Wars ( https://youtu.be/3mh0di7Dh7A )
Kingdom Come is relevant to the time period of the story which is 1911-1912, the years of the Chinese overthrow of the Qing Dynasty. With the repetitive lyrics of run, run, run and hide is talking about the dangers of the fighting happening. Kingdom Come is about safety from war and the safety at the end of the hide. The song is telling you that there's safety somewhere and there's no need to worry as long as you know where to go. This also relates to the story because Lu's safety was at his old home which is now broken down.

This is a hair ornament used by Chinese women during the Qing Dynasty, it was used to hold up buns or a topknot in place. Carved from a rectangular block of Jade, you would place this at the top of your bun or topknot and slide a needle through the holes at the base to hold your hair up. Occasionally different carvings would be on the ornaments such as dragons or other animals instead of traditional five ribs. Not only were these hair ornaments made from Jade, they were also made from gold and silver. Jade is considered more classy considering the subtle colors and the preciousness of the stone in China.
